Acronyms are everywhere, and it’s even more difficult in a foreign language. So here are a few that I hear or use regularly. In no particular order:
- IMC: BMI
- PIB: GDP
- OTAN: NATO
- OMS: WHO
- EAU (Emirats arabes unis): UAE
- BAC: A levels

- CAF: Caisse d’allocations familiales : Benefits office
- IA (Intelligence artificielle): AI
- SPM: PMS
- TDAH/hyperactivité : ADHD
- TSPT/ESPT, usually said in full by the French: Syndrome de stress post-traumatique: PTSD
- FOMO: FOMO (the French use the English accronym)
- ASMR: ASMR (same as above)
Did you know them? Do you know how to pronounce them? If you want a special lesson to learn the French alphabet or how to pronounce the accronyms of your choice, send me a message here.
